Chocolate Chip Cookies You’ll Want to Bake Again and Again

By Hillary Walker

A recipe so versatile and simple kids can make it and you can turn it into a holiday favorite with colorful M&M’s!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Peanut Butter M&M’s
  • Chopped walnuts
  • Or anything else you think would be delicious!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Stir in the baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract, mixing about 30 seconds until combined. (This saves using a second bowl and it always turns out fine! most recipes have you add all dry ingredients together, go ahead and do that if it makes you feel better.)
  5. Gradually add the flour, mixing slowly to avoid overworking the dough. Once fully incorporated, fold in the chocolate chips and/or any optional add-ins. Be careful not to overmix!
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet (for easy clean up) or spray pan with cooking spray and space evenly.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes. Whether you prefer them chewy or crispy, bake to your liking!
  8. Let cool slightly before digging in. Yum! (You might want to double it, we always do because they disappear so fast!)
