Syracuse Temple Open House – The House of the lord

When we told our kids we were going to a temple open house, Sami jumped for joy. She absolutely loves going. During our visit to the Red Cliffs Temple open house, she didn’t want to leave. There’s something uniquely peaceful and beautiful about these sacred spaces. It’s where we feel close to God.

What Is a Temple in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are the most sacred places on earth. Each one is considered the house of the Lord. Every temple bears the inscriptions Holiness to the Lord and The House of the Lord as a reminder of its purpose and reverence.

“Each temple is a beacon of light and hope. The temple, the House of the Lord, stands as a symbol of our faith in life after death and as a stepping stone to eternal life for us and our families. The temple is a sacred and essential part of God’s plan for our happiness, now and forever.”
—Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Why We Love Visiting Temples with Our Children

We love being in the temple. It’s where we feel the Spirit of God and experience a peace that’s hard to describe. It’s also a place of learning, purpose, and connection for our entire family. If you are curious about Latter-day Saint temples, click here to learn more.

What to Expect at a Temple Open House

Before a new temple is dedicated, anyone can tour the inside during a temple open house. These free tours are open to the public, including people of all faiths. Recently, we visited the Syracuse Utah Temple open house and were blown away by the beauty of the design.

This particular temple features stunning stained-glass windows that I absolutely loved. Located near the Great Salt Lake, its architecture subtly incorporates the feeling of flowing water. Throughout the building, local Utah plants such as snowball sand verbena, desert paintbrush, common cattail, and reeds are reflected in the stained glass, woodwork, and ceiling details.

Why Temple Open Houses Matter to Our Family

You might wonder why we bring our kids to these events. Here’s why temple open houses are so meaningful to us:

  • The temple is one of the most important parts of our spiritual lives
  • These sacred spaces are filled with peace and reverence
  • The design and craftsmanship are simply breathtaking

The Temple Is a Place of Peace and Purpose

Temples are places of stillness and refuge, where you can leave the noise of the world behind and feel closer to God. More temples are being built across the globe every year. Click here for a full list of Latter-day Saint temples under construction.

Upcoming Temple Open House in New Mexico

In just a few weeks, we will be attending the Farmington New Mexico Temple open house, which runs from July 17 to August 2, 2025. If you are interested in seeing the inside of a temple before it is dedicated, check out the full list of upcoming temple open houses here.

Visiting a Latter-day Saint Temple Visitor Center

Even after a temple is dedicated, many locations offer year-round visitor centers that are open to the public. These are welcoming places where anyone can learn more, ask questions, and feel the spirit of the temple. Click here for a complete list of temple visitor centers.

Walking the Temple Grounds

Even if you do not go inside, simply walking around the temple grounds can be a peaceful and inspiring experience. The landscaping is beautiful, the atmosphere is reverent, and the Spirit can be felt even from the outside.

If you ever have the chance to visit a temple or attend a temple open house, I encourage you to do it. You won’t regret it.
